EATG at the AIDS 2016 Conference in Durban

EATG is not only represented by a legion of capable members, but also hosts the European Networking Zone together with AIDS Action Europe and ECUO. A delegation of almost 30 members.

The presence of a large and strong delegation of the communities of people living with and affected by HIV in Europe and Central Asia is even more important as both the IAS and the AIDS Conferences will come to Europe (2017 - Paris, 2018 - Amsterdam). We will start building bridges to our communities across the globe to explore the common issues, tasks and missions that await us in the effective response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic on the community's side.

The European Networking Zone is not only a space where you can meet European activists and their partners, but can also sit down for a friendly chat and watch some of our information videos. Or grab some water and send a balloon message to the world. Or just sit with us and marvel at the crowd.

The program of the ENZ is rich. Presentations, videos, discussions, round-tables, casual meetings - everything to make sure that the European communities' voice is heard in the conference. There are some empty slots that we are happy to fill with last-minute developments.

Useful resources

The AIDS 2016 Conference online program helps you design your stay and days. The program is incredibly busy so don't even aim to go everywhere. You can also download it as an app to your smartphone or tablet.

You may perhaps want to choose a roadmap (also designed by EATG for non-communicable diseases), which allows you to keep on track according to your key areas of interest.

Don't miss out on the Global Village and other social programs, which are, of course, at least as much political as they are entertaining. Meet and greet people from all around the world.

By all means join the EATG Facebook reporting page. Our members and co-workers upload news, slides, pictures, videos and documents literally by the minute during the conference.

EATG on Twitter is another valuable source if you want short, snappy, to the point reporting.

Official scientific conference reporting will be provided by NAM/AIDSMAP as usual. High quality, reliable reporting, in-depth analyses also from several EATG members.

As usual, the preparations for the AIDS2018 Conference, to be held in Amsterdam, will already start in Durban. The EATG is represented in the Course Coordination Committee by its chair Luís Mendão.

As Eastern Europe and Central Asia see a disproportionate burden of the epidemic currently, it is extremely important that key affected populations and specific regions with concentrated epidemics are adequately represented and advocated for.

You can also join this conversation by getting into touch with the EATG and its policy experts. Follow us on Facebook or Twitter and make your voice heard.
