On behalf of the Fenway Institute and the Center for American Progress

Dear colleagues,

Please consider signing your institution or organization on to the attached letter to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology in support of including sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) functionality as a certification requirement for Electronic Health Records under the meaningful use program in 2017. Such a move could dramatically increase SOGI data collection in health care settings, and allow us to better understand and address LGBT health disparities.

The letter is available here.  Please sign on at this link:

Please tell us the name of your organization as you would like it to appear on the letter. We will also ask you for your name and email, but that won’t be included in the letter; that’s just in case we have any questions for you.

Please let us know by COB Friday April 25. The comment is due Monday April 28. Thank you for considering this request. Feel free to forward to any institutions—including health care providers, professional organizations, etc.—you think may consider signing on.

Best wishes,

Sean Cahill and Harvey Makadon, The Fenway Institute
