Background:

While there has been tremendous progress in the delivery and implementation of antiretroviral therapy for HIV-infected individuals in various resource-limited settings, the lack of access to treatment monitoring tests remains an issue for most resource-limited countries. Standard technologies used to determine cd4 cell counts and viral load are not optimal for use in many settings.

This symposium focuses on the latest developments in CD4 and viral load tests that may be appropriate for use in resource-limited settings and offers an opportunity to discuss how and where treatment monitoring tests may be implemented in the developing world.
