MAY-24-12  Tonight, the DC D-CFAR is holding a city-wide seminar featuring Dr. Rochelle Walensky, MD, MPH.  Dr. Walensky will provide an overview of HIV/AIDS policy and the economics of cost-effectiveness of HIV care.  Read more.

MAY-23-12  On Wednesday, May 23 from 12:00-2:00 PM amFAR and AVAC: Global Advocacy for HIV Prevention, in cooperation with the Congressional HIV/AIDS Caucus, will host a Capitol Hill briefing on the research agenda needed to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic.   Panelists will explore the research agenda needed to bring the epidemic to a close, with special focus on a review of the status of existing and upcoming scientific research.  Read more.

MAY-22-12  The CDC announced an opportunity to apply for grants to support testing and linkage to care for HBV and HCV. This opportunity was made possible with funding the CDC Division of Viral Hepatitis received from the Prevention and Public Health Fund.  Read more.

MAY-18-12  On the eve of the first ever National Hepatitis Testing Day (May 19), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is issuing draft guidelines proposing that all U.S. baby boomers get a one-time test for the hepatitis C virus.  Read more.

MAY-17-12  Assistant Secretary for Health and Human Services Dr. Howard Koh issued a statement today on the hepatitis risk assessment tool recently launched by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  Click here to read the statement.  

MAY-18-12  May 18th is HIV Vaccine Awareness Day (HVAD). This annual observance is a day to recognize everyone working to find a safe and effective HIV vaccine and to educate our communities about the importance of preventive HIV vaccine research.  Read more.

MAY-04-12  The Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention (DHAP) recently released its annual report, Accelerating Progress, Investing for Impact, which provides an overview of some of the HIV prevention activities conducted and supported by the CDC from late 2010 to the end of 2011.  Click here to access the report.  

MAY-15/16-12  The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Blood Products Advisory Committee (BPAC) will meet on May 15th and 16th on a variety of topics including OraSure's application for approval of its OTC rapid HIV test and the evaluation of possible frozen plasma products.  Read more.

MAY-02-12   The Hepatitis C Drug Development Advisory Group's (HCV DrAG) Definitions and Nomenclature Working Group (DNWG) presented a poster titled "Consensus Recommendations for Virologic Nomenclature in DAA Clinical Trials" at the 2012 European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) meeting in Barcelona, Spain.  Read more.

MAY-10/11-12  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Antiviral Drugs Advisory Committee will convene two separate meetings on May 10th and 11th, 2012 to review two submissions from Gilead Sciences, Inc.  Read more.
